RATES
Every man dies. Not every man truly lives.
Eventually We Must Get Down to Business
Life can't be all fun and games. Services must be discussed. Deals must be made. If you're interested, I am available to meet with you personally, discuss your needs, and show you my work. My rates for wedding and fashion photography vary depending on the size and scope of the job. Feel free to contact me for details. If you're interested in headshots, however, everything is explained below.
How I Work
A great headshot must have three qualities. It should accurately show what you look like on a great day. It should capture a unique and interesting aspect of your personality. And it should be an engaging, creative and original photograph. Without all of these characteristics, a headshot is ineffective.
My session is split between my natural light studio and various outdoor locations. Natural light is a very honest, beautiful light. You will look like a real person, which is extremely important to agents and casting directors (lately, agents have been requesting natural light photographs because they're tired of meeting actors who don't look anything like their headshots). And when used properly, it is the most flattering light as well, so you will look your best. After all, there's no reason a headshot can't be a beautiful portrait.
Photographers who only shoot in a studio or at one specific location are trapped by their own surroundings. Given few options, they will take similar photographs every day, and your unique appeal will be lost in the pile. But using several locations for every shoot allows me to create a variety of compelling images that are unique to you. Since my background is in acting and photojournalism, I believe in a very natural, candid approach to headshots. Just as I'm not interested in artificial lighting, I have no interest in artificial posing either. I want to capture a spontaneous moment in your life, when there's a real spark in your eyes and a genuine expression on your face. Your greatest asset as a performer is your individuality. So all you have to do is show up. I'll take care of the rest.
Although I have photographed people all over New York City, my location of choice is Ft. Tryon Park. Just twenty minutes from midtown, it's the park in northern Manhattan near the Cloisters Museum. The park and its surrounding area has space, beauty, variety and privacy. There's nowhere better for outdoor photography. And my studio has natural light, plenty of space, good music and great coffee.
Packages
- Bottomless Cup (Headshots): $950. The shoot includes 350-450 digital color images and lasts 3-4 hours. You will have access to the images online within four business days of the shoot, or the next business day for an additional $50. You will be able to view your photographs in color and black and white, email them to friends and agents and order a full resolution DVD ($15) and large contact sheets of your favorites ($10) for easy visual reference. Finally, free refills of coffee.
- Happy Ending (Comp Card): $1,300. After your headshot session I’ll take an additional 150 photographs for a commercial or print comp card (see samples). You’ll have to pay the makeup designer an extra $50, but it’s worth the investment since she’s in charge of the happy ending as well as the makeup (for men and women; I am a married man, after all). Please indicate this package when booking a session so I can allow for extra time to shoot.
- Favorites Selection: $100. For an additional $100 I will select my favorite images and rank them in order of preference.
Discounts
- Greensaver - Save: $100
Help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels by converting your home to Green Power with Con Edison. It's quick, easy and inexpensive. By purchasing Green Power, you support the development of more facilities that generate electricity from renewable resources. Bring your electric bill or receipt and I will take $100 off your shoot. -
Ménage à Trois - Save: $100
Bring a friend and I'll take $100 off for each of you. And I'll even throw in a double espresso. -
Repeat Offenders - Save: $200
I want to be your photographer for life (it's really not as creepy as it sounds), so I will take $200 off either package for returning clients. This time, you bring the coffee. -
Student Discount - Save: $100
Save $100 if you attend high school, college or full time acting school. Those studying Advanced Barista Skills at the Starbucks School may qualify as well, but I will need a personal demonstration. -
Veterans Discount - Save: $100
This includes current and former members of the military, as well as wives and children of service members on active duty. -
Cash Discount - Save: $50
(preferably small, unmarked bills in a paper bag). Cash can be added to other discounts, but otherwise discounts are not combined. -
Coffee and Dessert Special - Extra Photos!
Sweet treats from BabyCakes Bakery (delicious sugarless, flowerless pastries) or a soy latte from Joe's Coffee (the best espresso in NYC) will get me so wired I'll never stop shooting. Do we stand in line because they're so good, or are they so good because we stand in line?
Hair and Make-up
- $150 for women/ $100 for men (cash only). Paid directly to the stylist. She has years of experience and is wonderful with subtle, natural light makeup. Best of all, she stays for the entire session to keep an eye on you. She’s extremely fun to be around and will keep you feeling relaxed and beautiful. I recommend her highly for men and women, and we’re not even related. Add $50 for a Comp Card session.
